Chromebook (or Chrome Browser) App: Screencastify

This is a great tool for recording screen-casts (or webcasts). The free version allows you to record up to 10 minute videos, but I have found that you can just create a part II video if you need to go over 10 minutes.

The nice thing is that it puts an icon right next to you address bar so it is always ready when you need it. I also like embedding the webcam into the bottom corner so people can still see me as I explain things.

This works on any device with a Chrome Browser, Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebooks... (sorry, no tablets).

Lessons Learned From Repairing Chromebooks #EdTech

Here are some lessons/tips and tricks I have learned throughout handling chromebook repairs in my district for the past 5 years. Background This is our first year with 1:1, although we have had Chromebooks in our District since 2013. During that time, we have handled all damage repairs in house at our school. With the implementation of the 1:1 program, we have over 1,700 chromebooks assigned to our students and staff. In 2017, we implemented a student help desk that assists with chromebook repairs. We have 3 different models of chromebooks, Samsung XE303Cs, EduGear R4, and Lenovo N22. Our teachers each have a HP 14 G3 Chromebook. 1. Don't throw anything out 3 or 4 years of collecting chromebook parts has substantially reduced the amount of parts I have had to order. In turn, this has reduced the cost of repairing devices.
